Pilgrim prayer service in Grañón
|
Today, I met a
young man, Ken, from Japan. He trained as a pharmacist and quit his job to
travel the world by bicycle in one and a half years. He is living frugally and
is using his savings to travel. He started in Turkey and traveled up to
Romania, Bulgaria, Austria, Germany; then to italy, france and now Spain. After
reaching Santiago on bicycle, he will travel to Lisbon and then head home.
I have to say
that everyone who is on the Camino is a seeker, they are figuring something out. Many are reworking
their relationship with work. Others carry a relationship in their heart.
Others have a request of the saint–St. James.
At the end of
today, we had a beautiful prayer service led by the lay volunteers of the
municipal albergue in Grañón. The facilitator said that the parish had no stamp
for the pilgrims’ credentials as the founder wanted the stamp to be imprinted
on the pilgrims’ hearts. So a blank square is left blank in the credential as a
symbol stamp. The pilgrims recited a
poem (it was assigned to pilgrims in their respective languages). A candle was
passed for pilgrims to offer a prayer or thought. We closed with reciting the
“Our Father” and giving each other a sign of peace by hugging each other.
