| Commemoration of Ignatius' Cannonball moment
 |
8/30/24
Today I saw that memorial where St. Ignatius
of Loyola was injured by a cannonball in Pamplona. That incident–the cannonball
moment–changed his life and that of the Church. Because he was injured, he had
to recuperate in his family home for a long time, during which he had only the
Life of Christ and the Lives of the Saints to read. His reading of the
spiritual books sparked a conversion in Ignatius to Jesus. He lived out the
rest of his life in friendship with Jesus and leading the Society of Jesus (the
Jesuits).
