you’ve lived almost six decades

My dad says he is not the same after his triple bypass. He gets winded doing yard work, going for a walk or just tying his shoelaces. My mom is a little slower. They both take naps midday.

Yesterday, I told my niece that I was 40 years old when she was born. She laughed stating, “you’ve lived almost six decades, and I haven’t even lived two.”

It is the reality that we are all getting older. Above is a lovely video of my parents playing with Thor as they are praying the rosary.

Graduation from Cal

I remember the ambivalence of applying and going into the Principal Leadership Institute at UC Berkeley. In retrospect, I flourished in the program. While I didn’t care for the great amounts of rigorous reading and writing, I loved learning and batting around the ideas with my colleagues. And now, after having run the Bay to Breakers, I was graduating. I could have had more of my family attend.

Celebrating 50 years

What would a party be without a fire?

I usually celebrate my birthday quietly as most Capricorns do. But As I began to participate in the 50^th birthdays of friends, I began to think about how I wanted to celebrate mine. I really wanted to celebrate the people in my life who have contributed to my being here. This included my parents and immediate family. And I wanted to bring friends from the various groups together: Academy, Flynn, Marshall, Church, and others. I wanted to bring them together to celebrate them. I am grateful for God, for my parents (who could not be there), my family for coming from out of town, for Robert & Paloma’s photobooth, for Desiree and Mark for the work in prepping the space and for everyone who stayed to clean. Thank you for the wonderful celebration.
